Alex on the book:
‘In this fifth book in the saga, we’re beginning to find out the truth behind the agency,’ says Alex Scarrow. ’I’m mindful that the series has already built up so many questions that it’s time for a few answers. On the TimeRiders website there has been an interesting flow of theories and ideas from fans of the series. It’s so tempting to wade in and provide clues or slip in red-herrings, but on the whole I’ve managed to resist that urge.’
‘This book sees the team working entirely together for the first time. An interesting dynamic to say the least. One of the reasons I enjoy writing this series so much is that for the first time, my characters are telling ME how they want to behave. And that’s quite a magical thing for a writer; to see words gather together into the form of a real person who wants a say in how all of this plays out. I feel like I’m channeling four or five different personalities…I may need to visit a shrink when this series is completed.’
‘Rome was going to be the setting for the third book, but for one reason or another things got shuffled round. It’s been great fun visiting the time period that my brother Simon spends a lot of time in. I’m a big fan of his Cato and Macro books and it was a bit of a thrill writing about locations, scenes into which either of those characters might potentially – accidentally – wander!’
’I’m now at work on the sixth book in the series. And in this one, things really get shaken up. Can’t say any more on that right now, however, I’m sure as I get stuck into the writing I might just tweet the odd nugget here and there.
